Patrick and Pat were delighted to get the chance to visit Odlums Flour mill in Portarlington this week.
The day started off with a tour of the plant where Patrick and Pat where got the chance to see demonstrations of the milling process for all flour products used in Twomey’s products. It was interesting to see what goes on behind the scenes. The mill itself has been operation for over 170 years but it was amazing to see the level of automation and technology that Valeo have added to their process over the years. Over 5,000 tons of flour is milled in Portarlington each year, making it the largest flour mill in the Republic of Ireland!
The day finished with some presentations and an excellent New Product Development (NPD) session run by Odlums technical expert and IBA President, Tony Kane. Patrick and Pat got to taste all of the trending products that Odlums have been developing, with organic products being a huge area of interest at the moment. They also got the chance to try some delicious sourdoughs and pastry products so there was plenty food for thought to feed the Twomey’s NPD process for the coming months!
Twomey’s Bakery is very proud of its longstanding partnership with Odlums, having done business with the Irish supplier for over 30 years. All wheat flour used in Twomey’s products is milled in Ireland and this is something that gives Twomey’s loaves and pastry an added element of quality and taste.
Many thanks to Gavin, Seamus, Tony, Michael and at Odlums for facilitating the visit.
