
Twomey’s Bakery travelled to Kulmbach, Germany, to visit the IREKS GmbH production facility in late July this year.
Patrick & Pat represented Twomey’s Bakery among other bakeries from around the country.
The 2 day trip offered IREKS customers the opportunity to see the state of the art milling and warehouse facility in Kulmbach, the largest of its kind in Europe.
The day started with a welcome breakfast hosted by Stefan Ertl, Head of International Sales. Stefan went through the history of the IREKS company with the group as well as the latest strategic plans for the company going forward. Founded in 1856, IREKS is known worldwide for its Baking ingredients and is considered the global industry leader. IREKs has a presence in 90 countries worldwide and employees nearly 3,000 employees.
After Stefan’s Introduction, the group were treated to an all access tour of the state of the art production & lab facility and warehouse. The highlight of the tour was the fully automated warehouse, which can store over 13,000 pallets at any one time. The hugely impressive process for picking pallets is fully automated by the latest in robotics technology.
The 2nd part of the day was focused around new product development and Mathias Weigel, Technical International Consultant, went through all the cutting edge exciting products that IREKS hope to bring to the Irish market. Twomey’s now intend to use this information to inform its New Product Development process over the next 6 months.
The trip was organised by Andrew Ingredients, a valued supplier of Twomey’s Bakery for over 10 years. Andrew Ingredients are responsible for distributing products on behalf of IREKS on the Island of Ireland.
