About Us

Twomeys Bakery is a fourth generation family bakery, nestled in the heart of west Co. Limerick in the village of Dromcollogher. Established in 1901, we are one of Ireland’s oldest family bakeries.

The Twomey name is synonymous with quality baking. Our team has a wealth of baking experience and craftsmanship, and we take immense pride in perfecting our product, ensuring that it is of the highest quality possible. A range of fresh Artisan Breads, Cakes & Tarts are produced on a daily basis in our purpose built facility.

The Twomey’s range is distributed nationwide.

Establishment

  • James Fitzgerald establishes Fitzgerald’s
    Bakery & Grocery Store
  • Deliveries are made via horse-drawn cart to
    local communities surrounding Dromcollogher
  • Business continues to operate through
    significant civil upheaval due to the War of
    Independence & WW1

1940

Continuation

  • James Fitzgerald passes the
    business to his daughter, Kitty and
    her husband, Tom Twomey
  • Name change to Twomey’s Bakery
  • Fleet of delivery vans are purchased to
    allow for wider deliveries to West
    Limerick/North Cork areas

1980

Early Expansion

  • Tom Twomey passes the business to his son,
    Pat Twomey and his wife, Eileen
  • Significant capital investments are made, with
    the construction of two plant extensions, the
    acquisition of Aherns Bakery & improvements
    to machinery
  • A chain of four Twomey’s Coffee & Cake
    Shops are launched across Limerick & Cork

Rapid Growth

  • Further investment to the plant in
    the form of a third extension
  • Operating model change to focus on
    Supplying products directly to supermarkets
  • New innovative range of products rolled out
    with huge success, such as Twomey’s polski
    chleb
  • Customer base is greatly expanded and now
    stretches to include the greater Munster
    region

  • Twomey’s launch a hugely successful
    nationwide partnership with Aldi
  • Significant investment made in future

  • Pat Twomey’s son, Patrick, joins
    the business
  • Successful grant aided capital
    investment project to the value of
    €500k launched
  • Signing of three year Exclusivity
    deal with Aldi to further strengthen
